Message from the
Executive Director

Welcome to the Calgary Child Advocacy Centre.

Born from our deep concern for the well-being of children and a desire to make a difference, the Child Advocacy Centre's (CAC) vision is to create a warm, welcoming, and safe place for children and youth who have been abused.

You will see on this website that the number of child abuse cases in Calgary and the surrounding areas is staggering. Most people would be shocked to learn about the depravity of violence and anger inflicted on innocent children.

Unfortunately, news reports of recent cases are all too familiar. A trusted authority figure, vulnerable kids, missed signals, and a community stunned that it could go on so long.

Child victims are scared that revealing the abuse will bring harm to them or those they love. Child abuse is a crime that thrives in a climate of silence, secrecy, and shame. Fear and guilt is what offenders count on as they groom their victims.

It is vital that government and our community take dramatic steps to protect our children, prevent abuse from happening, and educate our communities in a way that will help us identify and prevent more abusers from finding new victims.

Calgary's Child Advocacy Centre will do just that. We know there is a better way, so for the first time in Calgary's history, four government agencies will be housed in one facility to change the way child abuse cases are investigated.

Compassionate teams of front line social workers, therapists, doctors, nurses, police detectives, and prosecutors will work side by side under one roof in the best interests of the child and his/her family.

Child abuse can no longer hide behind closed doors under a veil of secrecy and shame. The care and safety of our children is a community issue.

It is my distinct pleasure to invite you to join us on this exciting journey to create Calgary's first Child Advocacy Centre.
